Welcome to LeashMates! These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the LeashMates mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App") operated by LeashMates ("we," "us," or "our").
By downloading, installing, or using our App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
🪪 1. Eligibility and Account Registration
To use LeashMates, you must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Create an account with accurate and complete information
Maintain the security of your account credentials
Promptly notify us of any unauthorized use of your account
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
🐕 2. Description of Services
LeashMates is a social platform designed to help dog owners connect with each other — for activities such as dog walking, playdates, and community events, as well as for friendship and romantic connection. Our services include:
User profiles for you and your dog(s)
Matching and discovery features to find compatible companions nearby
In-app messaging between users
Location-based services to find nearby users
LeashMates facilitates introductions between users but does not guarantee compatibility, safety, or the accuracy of any user's profile information. Any relationship — whether a walking partnership, friendship, or romantic connection — formed through the App is entered into at your own discretion and risk.
📋 3. User Conduct
3.1 Acceptable Use
You agree to use LeashMates only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You agree to:
Provide truthful and accurate information about yourself and your dog(s)
Treat other users and their pets with respect
Use the App in a safe and responsible manner
Comply with all applicable local, provincial, and federal laws
3.2 Prohibited Activities
You agree not to:
Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
Send unsolicited explicit, sexual, or romantic content to other users
Post false, misleading, or deceptive content — including fake profile photos or misrepresenting your identity
Create a profile on behalf of another person or impersonate any person or entity
Use the App for commercial solicitation without our written consent
Collect or harvest other users' personal information
Attempt to move conversations off the App in order to evade our safety features or reporting tools
Upload or transmit viruses or malicious code
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
Use the App in any way that could harm other users, their pets, or their personal safety
🚫 Zero tolerance: LeashMates has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. Users who engage in harassment, threats, hate speech, or other conduct prohibited by these Terms will have their content removed and their account suspended or permanently terminated, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.
🦺 4. Safety and User Responsibility
LeashMates facilitates connections between dog owners but does not control user behaviour or guarantee the safety of any in-person meetings. You acknowledge and agree that:
You are solely responsible for your own personal safety and the safety of your dog(s) during any in-person interactions arranged through the App
You should exercise caution and use your own judgment when choosing to meet another user in person
You should meet other users in public places, especially for initial meetings
You should not share personal contact information — such as your home address, workplace, or phone number — with other users until you have established sufficient trust
You are responsible for ensuring your dog is properly vaccinated, licensed, and behaves safely around people and other animals
We are not responsible for any injuries, incidents, property damage, or other losses that occur during in-person meetings arranged through the App, whether involving you, your dog(s), or another user
4.1 Reporting
If you experience or witness behaviour that makes you feel unsafe, or that violates these Terms, please report it immediately using the in-app reporting tools or by contacting us at support@LeashMates.com. We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
🐶 Safety tip: Always let someone you trust know where you're going and who you're meeting when connecting with a new LeashMates user for the first time. Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it's okay to leave.
📸 5. Content and Intellectual Property
5.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of content you post on LeashMates ("User Content"), including photos, text, and other materials. By posting User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, modify, and display your User Content for the purpose of operating and improving the App.
5.2 Our Content
All content, features, and functionality of the App — including text, graphics, logos, icons, and software — are owned by LeashMates and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission.
🔒 6. Privacy
Your use of LeashMates is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Our Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use our App.
Location data is used to provide matching and discovery features. You can manage location permissions through your device settings at any time.
⚖️ 7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
7.1 Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
7.2 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LEASHMATES AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR LOSSES RESULTING FROM IN-PERSON MEETINGS ARRANGED THROUGH THE APP.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, LEASHMATES IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT — ONLINE OR OFFLINE — OF ANY USER OF THE APP. THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO MISREPRESENTATION, HARASSMENT, ASSAULT, OR ANY OTHER HARMFUL BEHAVIOUR BY A USER YOU CONNECT WITH THROUGH THE APP. YOU ASSUME ALL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH IN-PERSON CONTACT WITH OTHER USERS.
🤝 8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless LeashMates and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
Your use of the App
Your violation of these Terms
Your User Content
Any in-person interaction with another user, including any injury or damage involving your dog(s)
🔗 9. Third-Party Services
The App may contain links to or integrate with third-party services, websites, or applications. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of third-party services. Your use of any third-party service is subject to that service's own terms and conditions.
🔔 10. Modifications to the App and Terms
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the App (or any part thereof) at any time with or without notice. We also reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time.
We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms in the App or by sending a notification. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
🚪 11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the App at our sole discretion, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms, is harmful to other users, or for any other reason.
You may delete your account at any time through the App settings. Upon termination, your right to use the App will immediately cease.
🇨🇦 12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia.
📌 13. Miscellaneous
Entire Agreement: These Terms (together with our Privacy Policy) constitute the entire agreement between you and LeashMates regarding the App.
Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of those rights.
Assignment: You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights without restriction.
